New Copper Foil Class – February 2016

20 December, 2015/Class

I will be teaching a class at Seattle Stained Glass. Details:

Introduction to Copper Foil (Tiffany Method of Stained Glass)

The copper foil technique, method made popular by Louis Comfort Tiffany at the turn of the century, involves wrapping pieces of glass with copper foil and soldering them together along the length of the seams.

Copper foil can be used as an alternative to lead in any instance at the personal preference of the user. It is much stronger than lead when soldered, needs no putty, is waterproof, and allows you to do intricately detailed projects where the substantial look and weight of lead would detract from the aesthetics of a delicate design. Copper foil also allows for the construction of three-dimensional objects such as lamps and boxes.

Participants will build their own copper foil stained glass window.

Please bring 2 copies of your pattern with you on the first class. There are thousands of free stained glass patterns online. The easiest way to find one is at images.google.com. Type in “stained glass pattern dove” or “stained glass pattern celtic” or any variation on that and you will find a lot. Your pattern should have up to about 30 pieces and not be bigger than 20”x20”. If you need to print it out on multiple pieces of paper and glue stick it together, that’s fine.

Class will meet one evening each week for three consecutive weeks. In addition to tuition, students can expect to spend between $200 – $300 for tools and materials during the course. Each student will go away with a finished stained glass piece, tools and enough experience to keep making more stained glass panels.

Emphasis is placed on learning techniques and skills. No experience required. Pre-registration required.

Tuition: $75.00

When: Classes meet once a week for three weeks from 6PM to 9PM. Tuesday February 23 through March 8.
